This position is less than one hour from Toronto, this eastern Ontario health region offers one of the busiest single site ERs in Ontario, with the department receives approximately 75000 visits per year of all age groups and variable acuity. The department is staffed by 25 full and part-time EPs. Coverage is 24/7 with up to 9 scheduled shifts per 24 hour period., which means there may be from 4 EPs on at one time to 6 hours of single coverage on midnights. PRHC has a full complement of specialist coverage including Pediatrics, Obs/Gyn, General Surgery, Psychiatry, Cardiology, ICU, Hospitalist. Exceptions are: Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular Surgery and Infectious Disease. Patients requiring assessment by those services are transferred to the accepting hospital which is usually in Toronto or Kingston. Other specialties not offered as on-call services are available for referral in the community (e.g. Neurology, Rheumatology, Dermatology and Endocrinology). Other services such as Respirology and Gastroenterology offer hospital consultation services for inpatients. We have an excellent Diagnostic Imaging department which provides standard X-ray, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, CT and MRI services. These services are available during the following times: X-ray (24/7); U/S (0800-2000), Nuclear Medicine & MRI (M-F, 0800-1600), CT (0800-2100 outpt & 24/7 emergent).
Remuneration is based on an ED Alternative Funding Agreement (AFA) with the MOHLTC. Teaching opportunities exist with the affiliated university.
